Signs of the Zodiac
The signs of the Zodiac illustrated below are all made from 4mm plywood, one face of which is of mahogany. The mahogany face is preserved in its natural colour by sealing with Danish oil followed by a wax coating. The reverse side is painted matt black. The Zodiac sign simply slots into the base thus providing the option to have either the mahogany or the matt black side facing forwards.

The standard night candles used to illuminate the signs are readily available, however there have been incidents whereby they have been the cause of fires in households, usually by people placing them on unsuitable surfaces eg directly on top of a TV set. They should therefore be placed in a suitable holder on a non-flammable surface. Resting the candle on sand within the holder is a sensible precaution. Burning candles should never be left unattended. |
